Several years ago the early (1800 to about 1920) Greene County Surrogate
Court's records in Catskill were transferred to the Greene County
Historical Society's Vedder Memorial Library in Coxsackie. I believe the
Surrogate Court had to obtain permission from the NY State Court System,
and the historical society had to meet certain security, storage and access
requirements as well. The original records are still available to the
public, but only on those few days a week when the library is open. A small
price to pay to ensure that the original documents have been preserved.
