On Murphy, our local historians at the Old Stone Fort do admit that Murphy
fired on a British Officer, but it was because the Americian was going to
surrender the valley.  The shooting was 'to put some backbone' into the American
officer.  My paraphrase.  As to the year, I don't recall if it was 1780 or '82,
so I'll take your word on it.
