Here in Buffalo, the last intact War of 1812 historic site in the city is
under attack once again by proponents of zoo expansion. This is the site in
the middle of Frederick Law Olmsted's magnificent Delaware Park meadow where
300 soldiers who died during 1813 at the Flint Hill encampment are buried.
Now in use as a golf course, a proposal has been made once again to take the
land for zoo expansion. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any other
situations like this or has any ideas about what can be done about it. For
example, is there any sort of protection available for this type of site?
Are there any organizations which might help oppose something like this? How
about veteran's organizations? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
