Hello fellow NY HIST list members!
I thought I'd do a little introduction for those of you who don't know me
and a little catch-up for the many who do.
I've made my way down to Richmond, VA where I am still searching for
anything to come along. My girlfriend, Jennifer Ley, formerly the Exec.
Director of BROOKSIDE Museum in Ballston Spa, has a great job as Director
of Public Programming at the Valentine Museum here in the capitol of the
Confederacy, and I get suckered into volunteering quite a bit (we have our
big Cenennial celebration this weekend and I am hosting John Wickham's
library!).
I've pretty much begged for work at most places within an hour of Richmond
but am told flatly that I'm overqualified for most spots, that the museums
don't want to hire an archaeologist, and the archaeologists don't want to
hire historians - can't win. (I've made a lot of contacts of my own, but
does anyone have any connections down here?)
Now that I'm down south I am out of the loop on what's hapening in NY
history and hope that I can find out the important matters here on the
list. It is a 10 hour drive to get up home, but I'm still doing my
Cazenovia and central New York research and have hopes to finish some of my
various projects (see my web page) while I am so distant from my primary
data sources (which provide ample excuses for procrastination).

        Glad to be on board

        Dan Weiskotten
