Being personally acquainted neither with the song, nor the young lady
nor the place of her birth makes me hesitant to make a response.
However, that she would come so far along the canals isn't outside of
the realm of possibility... there was a Udall's Mill in Great Neck,
Nassau, Long Island in the early-mid 1800's.
