Fredericksburgh in Dutchess/Putnam County was originally all of what is now
Carmel and Kent and most of what is now Patterson and Southeast. It ceased
to exist in 1795 when four towns were created from it: Carmel, Frederick
(later Kent), Franklin (later Patterson) and Southeast. (Southeast had
existed before (the Oblong only) but its now boundaries are totally
different from its old ones.) For a simpler (?) explanation of this change,
you may look at the maps on the Putnam County Historian's website
(www.putnamcountyny.com/historian) and click on places and boundaries, or
whatever the button is called.
I assume that you are not interested in placenames that no longer exist
because the towns just changed their names, e.g. Quincy became Putnam Valley
after just 10 months under its original name.
