One of my German ancestors participated in the building of the Reformed
Church in Schoharie, NY now known as the Old Stone Fort. The names of the
those who were involved in the construction were carved in the foundation
stones. Some of them, including my ancestor William Dietz, have the letters
BM after there name. I am trying to determin what that means in this case.
One of the historians at the Fort said that they belived it was the Latin
equivalent or English abbreviation for Benevalent Memory. The problem is he
was not dead at the time his name was carved in the stone; thus ruling out
this possible explanation.
Any clues would be much appreciated.
