Hello,
Did you visit BlackPast.org (http://blackpast.org/?q=aah/walker-madam-c-j-1867-1919) They cite the Walker Family papers as a resource (http://madamwalkerfamilyarchives.wordpress.com/)

There is also Discovering American Women's History Online - refers to a digital collection in Indiana: http://digital.mtsu.edu/cdm/search/collection/women/searchterm/madame%20c.%20j.%20walker/order/nosort

Finally, there is the site, Women and Social Movements in the United States: http://womhist.alexanderstreet.com/projectmap.htm

There are some references to Walker in past issues of the Buffalo Criterion (African American newspaper) on New York Heritage - may have further clues there! http://www.newyorkheritage.org/buffalo-criterion.php

Good Luck!

Subject: Query about Madame C.J. Walker and Vertner Tandy

One of my students is working on a project about Madame C.J. Walker and her last home, Villa Lewaro, which is in Irvington, NY. She is having great difficulty finding primary source materials (letters, diaries, inventories, photographs, architectural plans, etc). Does anybody have advice to offer? Any ideas about where she might find materials related either to Walker or to the house's architect, Vertner Tandy?

Thanks,
Anastasia
