I would check with New York Historical Society or someone like Professor
William Gertz

painted?

This 19th c. painting has some indecipherable writing on the stretcher,
ending in NY. Does the place look at all familiar to anyone? The artist
may have added the mountains in the distance because s(he) thought it was a
good idea. The sail boats and little steam paddlewheeler are sitting on the
water, not in it. The river or lake is glassy, but the sails are full. The
chimney on the right seems to rise right out of the trees. The picture
could have been copied from a print and then the boats added.
