> Does anyone know the location of the only memorial dedicated to the memory of
> Benedict Arnold in NYS?

There is, I beleive, a highway marker along the shore of Lake Champlain
opposite Valcour Island a few miles south of Plattsburgh commemorating the
Battle of Valcour. For those not familiar with this battle, Benedict
Arnold built a small fleet at the south end of the lake, sailed north, hid
behind valcour Island until the larger British fleet sailed by, then
engaged them. Although he lost the battle and barely escaped himself, he
inflicted enough damage on the British that they turned around and
returned to the north end of the lake where they stayed until the next
year giving the Patriots a year to organize themselves, gain experience
and numbers, and generally prepare themselves for Saratoga. So if Saratoga
was the turning point of the Revolution, then Valcour and Benedict Arnold
were the key to Saratoga.
