I feel strongly, based on having seen a number of similar works, that this is the work of Joseph H. Hidley (1830-1872) of Poestenkill, NY. Many details in the painting point to it having been executed by Hidley, ca. 1855-1860. Hidley did copy specific American scenes, including a number of Bartlett views from American Scenery, as well as from other period view books. However, the scenes depicted in many other of his "Hudson River-ish" landscapes are to various degrees imaginary, as this scene appears to be. By the way, while Hidley is best known for those townscapes of communities in the Poestenkill area, these represent a tiny minority of his output, which also includes religious paintings, portraits, genre scenes, and still lifes.
