Special Collections, Feinberg Library, Plattsburgh State University
(Clinton County) will be unveiling its web based regional database,
POLARIS, on October 13th at 12:30 pm in Room 112 of Feinberg Library. A
reception will follow. All NYHIST subscribers are cordially invited to
attend. POLARIS, or Plattsburgh On Line Archival Retrieval Indexing
Service, is an automated version of our card catalog which contains
article level indexing of newspapers and magazines from the Lake
Champlain/Adirondack region covering the last two hundred years, plus our
hldings of pamphlets, maps, manuscripts, photographs and more. For those
unable to attend the reception, but interested in the service, point your
browser to:
http://www.plattsburgh.edu/adadvp/libinfo/library/speccoll.html
and follow the link to POLARIS. This is a work in progress that currently
contains the last seven years of indexing of all types plus newspaper
citations from 1800 to 1890. Addition of another 60,000 existing entries,
plus current materials will be ongoing.
