I will look at it more closely, but I recommend you forward the question
to Trudie Grace at the Putnam County Historical Society in Cold Spring.
Their current show, This Perfect River-View is on the Hudson River -
paintings of the Highlands. [log in to unmask] Julia

painted?

This 19th c. painting has some indecipherable writing on the stretcher,
ending in NY. Does the place look at all familiar to anyone? The
artist may have added the mountains in the distance because s(he)
thought it was a good idea. The sail boats and little steam
paddlewheeler are sitting on the water, not in it. The river or lake is
glassy, but the sails are full. The chimney on the right seems to rise
right out of the trees. The picture could have been copied from a print
and then the boats added.
