Announcing the
REDISCOVERING NEW YORK HISTORY AND CULTURE WEBSITE
The New York State Archives has recently developed a new website as part of its mission to ensure that all the diverse communities, peoples, and events in New York history are fully documented and that documentary evidence is easily accessible for research and learning. The Rediscovering New York History and Culture website serves as a pathway directing users to historical records and resources around the state.
To access the website, log on to the State Archives web site at http://www.archives.nysed.gov/ and select Rediscovering New York.
A variety of tools have been developed to tell the stories of New York's communities and people including:
· A statewide "catalog" of archival/historical collections and finding aids found in the statewide Historic Documents Inventory.
· A directory of historical records repositories in New York State.
· A wealth of information on special topics and areas of interest. Arranged topically, each page provides listings of projects, links to finding aids, digitized images, on-line exhibits and publications, and links to other resources. Underdocumented topics include: African Americans, Latinos, Mental Health, and Environmental Affairs. Special Areas of Interest include: genealogy, military, transportation, and community history.
If you have on-line finding aids, digitized images, exhibits, publications, or a project report which relate to historical records in New York please let us know, [log in to unmask], so we can include your link.
If you have any questions about the site or recommendations for improving its look or content feel free to contact me.
