Howell, Charles, and Keller, Allan. The Mill at Philipsburg Manor and a Brief History of Milling. Tarrytown, New York: Sleepy Hollow Restorations, 1977.

I find it the best brief account of watermill construction and use.

I am working on mill deeds from the 1815 period and have come across the term "Mill Irons" in connection to a small rural grist mill. Any ideas?
