A segment on the Flushing Remonstrance, one of New York's treasure documents from the collections of the New York State Archives, will be featured on CBS Sunday Morning, this Sunday, Dec. 23rd at 9:00am.

The piece is part of a statewide and national campaign to draw attention to this first petition for religious toleration in New York State (and one of the first in the nation) which will celebrate the 350th anniversary of its signing on Dec 27th. The story will feature an interview with one of New York State's most prominent historians and a Steward of the Archives Partnership Trust, Dr. Kenneth Jackson of Columbia University.

An op-ed on the significance of the Flushing Remonstrance, also written by Dr. Jackson, will appear in the Dec. 27 issue of the New York Times.

At the same time, an op-ed written by Dr. Charles Haynes of the First Amendment Center of the Freedom Forum on the Flushing Remonstrance will appear in 200 newspapers nationally beginning this week, as well as in newspapers throughout New York State through the efforts of the New York Newspaper Publishers Association and the New York Press Association.

A public service announcement produced by The History Channel, pushing people to the commemorative www.flushingremonstrance.info website, will run on television and radio stations statewide through the combined efforts of The History Channel and the New York State Broadcasters Association.

For more information on the Flushing Remonstrance and our year of celebration, contact Bob Bullock at (518) 473-7105.
