Hello
I am an historical novelist and, at the suggestion of someone on the
Historical Fiction discussion list, I am writing to find out if you can help
me with some information I need about how funerals were conducted in NYC
during the early 1860s.
My writing involves a real character who died in Manhattan in 1861 and whose
body was
transported by ferry across the East River for burial at Greenwood Cemetery,
Brooklyn. I need to find out how such a funeral would have been organized,
length of traveling time, etc.
Any help you can give me would be enormously appreciated!
Many thanks
Marina Maxwell
