In Laura Ingalls Wilders book Farmer Boy there is a whole chapter on ice
harvesting. Chapter 6...Filling the Icehouse.
Farmer Boy is about Almanzo Wilder, Laura's husband. It takes place in
Hardscrabble, NY when he was 8 years old.
This is a great book for 4th graders as they are about the same age Almanzo
was in the book.
For any age this book is full of information on how country life was in NY
about 1870.

 Family farms are important.
Think about it....no farms....no food
