Many of the original materials, including, I believe, trial transcripts,
remain in the records of the Herkimer County Clerk.

The Historical Society of the Courts of the State of New York has
loaded
digital images of the Record and Briefs in the New York Court of
Appeals
case, People v Chester Gillette at:
http://www.courts.state.ny.us/history/gillette.htm

The Record contains over 2,000 pages of testimony, etc. It is upon
this
case that Dreiser's "An American Tragedy" is based, as is the movie "A

Place in the Sun" and the opera "An American Tragedy"

The provision of these images on the Society's website was made
possible
through a joint project of the New York Court of Appeals and the New
York
State Library.
