I would like to determine the history of early saw and grist mills in the
Helderbergs of western Albany County. I suspect that the earliest grist mill
was on Fox Creek in Beaver Dam, now Berne, and was built about 1774 by Jacob
Weidman.  I presume a saw mill had to have been constructed beforehand for
lumber to build the grist mill. It was probably built above or below the
grist mill. Any information or suggested sources on early mills would be
much appreciated. Hal Miller
