In September 1904, an International Electrical Congress was held in St.
Louis, Missouri. In conjunction with this conference, the American
Institute of Electrical Engineers published the Schenectady Electrical
Handbook.

In a manner similar to the regional "Tech Valley" marketing campaign a
century later, the Schenectady Electrical Handbook showcases the
industrial prowess of Schenectady. About two-thirds of the book is
devoted to the wonders of General Electric, with the remainder
discussing the American Locomotive Company (Alco), the Schenectady
Railway Company, the Hudson River Power Company and the engineering
expertise at Union College. Included among the dozens of illustrations
are maps of train routes and a detailed layout of the General Electric
plant.

I am pleased to announce that the Schenectady Digital History Archive is
celebrating the centennial of the Schenectady Electrical Handbook by
making it available online at:

The Schenectady Digital History Archive, a service of the Schenectady
County Public Library, has been making Schenectady County history and
genealogy available online since 1996.
