I'm trying to ascertain the NYS county of birth for Alban C. Stimers, who was chief engineer aboard the Monitor in its battle against the CSS Virginia.

Stimers died in Staten Island in 1876. My thought is that, if I could find him in the 1875 State census, it might list his county of birth.

I understand that a census for this area does exist. Does anyone know the condition or readability of this census?
