"It's a Wonderful Life" is set in upstate New York. I believe Seneca Falls
is the basis for Bedford Falls in the movie.

In the historical category: A 1993 made for TV movie on TNT called "The
Broken Chain" is about Sir William Johnson and the Mohawks. I don't think
any of it was filmed in NY though. Part of it was filmed in Yorktown,
Virginia which was dressed up to be colonial Albany (I was there working as
an extra). According to Leonard Maltin's Movie and Video Guide this movie
is available in video.
