10-16 Oct The Ontario County Archives will celebrate Archives Week, with an open house from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at its facility on County Road #46 in Hopewell, near Canandaigua, NY. There will be tours of the records storage building, refreshments, and a noon time talk by Leslie O'Malley, Ph.D., on changes in communications in the past century. POLARIS, or Plattsburgh On Line Archival Retrieval Indexing Service, is an automated version of our card catalog which contains article level indexing of newspapers and magazines from the Lake Champlain/Adirondack region covering the last two hundred years, plus our hldings of pamphlets, maps, manuscripts, photographs and more. This is a work in progress that currently contains the last seven years of indexing of all types plus newspaper citations from 1800 to 1890. Addition of another 60,000 existing entries, plus current materials will be ongoing. 16 Oct Michael Leclerc will be the speaker at a meeting of the Central New York Genealogical Society meeting on Saturday, October 16. Mr. Leclerc is a reference librarian in the microtext department of the New England Historical and Genealogical Society in Boston. He will speak on "Using Quebec's Notarial Records" at 10:00 am and "Advanced French Canadian Research at 1:00 pm. The meeting will be at the DeWitt Community Church on Erie Blvd. in DeWitt, across from Shoppingtown Mall. The seminar, beginning at 10:00 am will include four one hour workshops with two topic choices available each session. It will conclude with a dinner at which Jim Bolles, Past-President of the Connecticut Society of Genealogists, will speak on "Nursery Rhymes and Legends".
