It appears there WILL be a 146th anniversary celebration of the Jerry Rescue on October 1, in Downtown Syracuse. The preliminary program calls for wreath layings at the Jerry Rescue monument in Clinton Square, followed by a walking tour of related sites and a luncheon (possibly with vintage speeches). Anyone interested in coming or helping out is urged to contact me at mailto:[log in to unmask] Persons unfamiliar with the story can locate contemporary accounts in online versions of books by SJ May or JW Loguen at the UMich Making of America website at http://www.umdl.umich.edu/moa. A short and sweet version is provided in the Gerrit Smith Virtual Museum at http://www.NYHistory.com/gerritsmith/jerry.htm.
