Conference on New York State History June 4-6, 1998 Buffalo, New York Call for Papers Individual paper abstracts, panel proposals, workshops, and other program suggestions are now invited for the 1998 conference to be hosted by Buffalo State College, the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, and other Buffalo-area history organizations. Presentations may consider any aspect of the history of New York over the past 400 years. Diverse theoretical perspectives and innovative methodological approaches are welcomed. The deadline for proposals is December 31, 1997. The Conference on New York State History is an annual meeting of academic and public historians, publishers, educators, and general students of history who come together to discuss topics and issues related to the people of New York State in historical perspective and to share information and ideas regarding historical research, programming, and the networking of services. Ten presentation sessions plus a keynote address permit more than fifty individuals to take part in the formal program. Special consideration is accorded first-time presenters, graduate students, and municipal historians. The conference is self-sustaining and is organized by staff members from Cornell University, the New York State Historical Association, and the State Education Department's Office of Cultural Education. Interested parties are encouraged to discuss proposals and any conference-related ideas with the conference organizers who are David Brumberg of Cornell University, Wendell Tripp of the New York State Historical Association, and Stefan Bielinski of the New York State Museum - the conference coordinator. A larger program committee will be convened to consider proposals at a later date. All proposals must be received by December 31, 1997. A proposal is a one or two page description of each presentation. It must include paper and/or session titles, names, phone numbers, and E-mail addresses of all participants. Special scheduling and equipment requests also should accompany the proposal. All program participants are expected to register for the conference.
