I recently spoke with the NYS Comptroller's office and they led me to
their website. I was looking for a possible inheritance that was never
claimed by my Grandfather. At this website, http://www.osc.state.ny.us
you can search their unclaimed funds database by name. The on-line data
base only goes back to the 70's or something like that, but it was so
neat.

The first thing I did was put in our family name, which is rather
uncommon, and my Dad's name popped up. It seems that Blue Cross/Blue
Shield owes him money and they lost track of him. The address listed
was the one that we lived at in the mid- 70's. I was so excited....they
don't tell you how much the claim is for, but it was still exciting to
see it. They have a claim form at the site that you can download and
send to Albany to get the money. You would not believe the amount of
names on the database. My step-mother's name is Perrone, and there were
446 Perrone's with unclaimed money!

As far as my grandfather, whose claim would have been in the 40's, they
have an e-mail address to the Unclaimed Funds office. I gave them as
much information as I had and they checked their old files and sent me a
reply. It was not the reply that I wanted, but it was quick, easy, and
free.

Happy treasure hunting. I hope your find a pot of gold.
