VAN HORNESVILLE, N.Y. — Otsego Land Trust and landowners Connie Young and Ken Richards partnered to conserve over 280 acres of farm fields, woods and wetlands on both sides of State Route 80 south of Van Hornesville, creating a gateway to the town of rolling farmlands now protected forever. The Stock Farm is a complex mix of habitats including tillable fields, pasture, beaver and man-made ponds, woodlands, wetlands, and abandoned orchards, according to a news release from OLT. The release said springs and multiple headwater tributaries to the Otsquago Creek, which also runs through the property, keep it “lush and healthy.” Officials with OLT said that the Otsquago Creek is a major tributary to the Mohawk River, which flows to the Hudson. Keeping the creek clean by protecting the land on its shores contributes to the environmental sustainability of the Hudson River Valley overall. <http://www.timestelegram.com/article/20150817/SPORTS/150819615> -- Bob Sullivan Schenectady Digital History Archive <http://www.schenectadyhistory.org/> Schenectady County (NY) Public Library
