DOLGEVILLE — Shortly after members of the community gathered for a Christmas celebration in the heart of the village, a symbol of their historic roots went up in flames.

The village held its second annual parade and Christmas tree lighting in Plowe Park around 6 p.m., Saturday, followed by hot chocolate and cookies and a visit from Santa Claus in the community center.

Hours later, some of the same fire departments that participated in the parade responded to 20 Dolge Ave. to extinguish the flames that engulfed all three floors of the historic Alfred Dolge mansion.
