Unfortunately it is with regard to a devastating fire. The good news is that artifacts were saved. Please forward to all who may be interested. Thank You. The building is on Main Street and just a few feet from the fire hall. The Canisteo Volulnteer Fire Department made a wonderful stop/save with the net result most of the artifacts and holdings are salvageable. Amazingly enough, just a few months ago they installed a large, fire-resistent safe and their most valuable holdings were in there. The building's contents were heavily insured. First thing Wednesday AM, they were offered use of a large, heated and empty house where the water-damaged items are being dried by fans. . . . With all due respect to all involved, let us examine our facilities asking ourselves: Are we ready for a similar disaster? Regards, Craig, Allegany County Historian.
