STILLWATER >> Saratoga National Historical Park rangers spent Monday preparing for a shutdown during one of the site’s most important times of year. The Second Battle of Saratoga was fought Oct. 7, 1777, and British Gen. John Burgoyne surrendered 10 days later, a major turning point of the American Revolution. However, the battlefield and visitors center will be closed beginning today if the park closes because of a federal government shutdown caused by congressional disputes over President Barack Obama’s healthcare policy. <http://www.saratogian.com/articles/2013/10/01/news/doc524a07d935fdf698915298.txt?viewmode=fullstory> -- Bob Sullivan Schenectady Digital History Archive <http://www.schenectadyhistory.org/> Schenectady County (NY) Public Library
