SARATOGA SPRINGS – A late-night burglary at the National Museum of Racing netted five historic trophies in the most expensive heist in recent Spa City history. Someone broke into the building shortly before 11:30 p.m. Thursday and exited less than three minutes later in what police describe as a typical smash-and-grab burglary. The items include three gold cups – two of them 18-karat – and two silver trophies, including the 1903 Belmont Stakes Trophy, made by Tiffany & Co. featuring semiprecious stones. <http://www.saratogian.com/articles/2013/09/14/news/doc5233781bda261512635448.txt?viewmode=fullstory> -- Bob Sullivan Schenectady Digital History Archive <http://www.schenectadyhistory.org/> Schenectady County (NY) Public Library
