Good Morning:
I am pleased to share with you that Hartwick College,
a small private liberal arts college in Oneonta,
New York has established the U.S.
Pluralism Center in the site that formerly served as the college
president’s suite. It now houses the United States Colored Troops
Institute for Local History and Family Research, the Harriet Tubman Mentoring
Project, the privately-owned Matthews Collection for the Preservation of
Freedom Journey Classics, and the Exhibit Room. The Matthews Collection
consists primarily of first edition books and memorabilia pertaining to the
African American heritage, with a listing accessible via the web site www.hartwick.edu/usct/usct.htm
Or via Cornell University’s
online Guide to African American Documentary Resources.
The Center is currently the primary site
for the coordination of Hartwick’s Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Symposium
http://www.hartwick.edu/lincoln.xml
that has a primary focus upon the Freedom
Journey and the role of African Americans in the experience.
