Reposted from Association of Holocaust Organizations list. >> Arieh Lebowitz FOUR SEASONS LODGE DOCUMENTARY In 1979, 90 Holocaust Survivors came together and bought 44 acres in the Catskills, where they created an idyllic summer refuge two hours from New York City. They dubbed their collection of bungalows and communal buildings the FOUR SEASONS LODGE, and their retreat became a place to cook, swim, find love and enjoy the simple pleasure of spending long summer days with others who implicitly understood their pasts, and their pain. Somehow, through finding each other, they’ve found a way to celebrate life, and they do so with nightly card games, and weekly parties with live entertainers, a house band, and dancing. From Executive Producer/Director of Photography ALBERT MAYSLES (GREY GARDENS, SALESMAN), and New York Times reporter ANDREW JACOBS, comes an uplifting, insightful documentary about those who have c! hosen t o embrace their dark pasts with striking openness and, at times, black humor. In 2005, Mr. Jacobs discovered this Shangri-La and wrote about the lodge as part of a series on Catskills summer life for the Times. Astounded by the spirit, energy and wit of the residents, he realized that a newspaper article alone could not do justice to these remarkable folks. This past summer, Mr. Jacobs directed a team, led by legendary documentarian Mr. Maysles, to capture this powerfully resonant living history. FOUR SEASONS LODGE is currently in post-production. The documentary is being made as a nonprofit by the Four Seasons Project, with the goal of entering it in festivals around the country, reaching the widest possible audience, and making a valuable educational tool. The filmmakers are looking to get the word out about the film and develop a large network of people that are aware of its production and are interested ! in cont ributing to its success. If your organization can forward information on the film to your e-mail lists, include a mention in your newsletters, and/or include a link to our web site, www.fourseasonsmovie.org, on your sites, it would be greatly appreciated.
