NYS Governor Pataki announces the start of the 4th round of Barns
Restoration & Preservation Grants. Application deadline 12/16/2005.

Through the continuing efforts of New York State Governor George Pataki, the
Barns Restoration & Preservation Program continues preserving many
historical agricultural "artifacts" throughout the state. The 4th round of grants,
reserves 2 million dollars for barn restorations. This new grant application
cycle has just started and applicants have until December 16th, 2005 to
complete an application.

Information & General guidelines for this program can be found the Office of
Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation web page:
_www.nysparks.state.ny.us/grants/programs/barns.asp_
(http://www.nysparks.state.ny.us/grants/programs/barns.asp) also at this web page an application
for the grant can be downloaded in either pdf or MS Word format. The MS Word
format allows the application to type directly on the application.

Possibly to end of the Barns Restoration & Preservation Program:
Since the Governor has announced that he will not be running for
re-election, it is quite possible that this may be the final round of grants to be
awarded under Barns Restoration & Preservation Program and a final opportunity to
receive assistance for preserving these structural landmarks.

Why should Historians, Historical Societies be involved.
Historians, Historical Societies and other interested individuals are urged
to review their communities for historical, scenic, or landmark barn
structures. You should either encourage the owner to complete an application for
the program or assist in the application completion process. Historians and/or
Historical Societies should consider submitting a letter of support
detailing any significance the structure may have in their community. This letter
in support should be included with the application.

As series of informational workshops are scheduled in the very near future.
