On December 6 there will be a seminar about using the Internet for historical research. Participants should be familiar with computers and the Internet as well as traditional research methods and procedures. There will be discussions covering the World Wide Web, the 'Invisible" web, the "deep" web, search engines, search strategies and other resources available on the Internet. On December 13 there will be a workshop covering the construction of a pierced tin lantern. Attendence is limited as this will be a "hands on" workshop. Participants will be taught how to form and construct a lantern and shown various piercing techniques and patterns found on 18th and early 19th century pierced tin lanterns. Each participant will be provided with the necessary parts for their own lantern which they will assemble. Both programs will begin at 9:00 AM and continue until 4:00 PM. The fee for each of these programs is $45.00 (which includes lunch). Checks should be made out to the Crown Point State Historic Site. Please mail your checks with information identifying the program you wish to participate in to the Crown Point State Historic Site, 739 Bridge Road, Crown Point, NY 12928. You may make a reservation by responding to this e-mail or calling the site museum between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, but payment must be received by to November 20th. Other seminars/workshops during the coming year are pending. They will include making a rum horn, hand sewing leather, the art of French cooking, the art of French table, civilian clothes of the 1750s, reenactor officer training, French engineering, dating timber-framed structures. If you are interested in any of these topics, please respond and be specific as to which topic. When these programs are approved, more information will be sent out.
