Fine Arts Museum of Long Island in Hempstead is closing, and the trustees are making six matching display cases available, free, to a chartered museum or historical society, library, college, university, school, gallery or similar not-for-profit corporation. First preference will be given to a NY institution that will use the cases to display objects, collections or artifacts in a museum setting to the public. The cases are constructed of plate glass on four sides and top, attached to a wooden pedestal base. The glass panels are held to a metal frame with screws. There is storage space in the bases. Four of the cases are mahogany and two are painted on an unknown wood, possibly also mahogany. Dimensions given in inches, height from floor to top, width and depth: Mahogany: 2 cases each 64 H x 59 W x 29 D. 2 cases each 83 H x 63 W x 21 D. Painted on wood: 1 case 71 H x 75 W x 30 D 1 case 71 H x 69 W x 36 D. You may request one or more cases. Your institution, if selected, would pick up the cases at your expense at a moving and storage warehouse in Hempstead. We would want the cases removed within 2-3 weeks after you are notified. You will be asked to sign a receipt. Final transfer is subject to Regents, Attorney General's and court approval; I do not anticipate any difficulty in winning approval for this transfer.
