Hello, I recently received the following query from Naples, Italy, regarding the Italian-American singing star Gilda Mignoette, a popular singing star in New York's ethnic community in the 1920s: " ...information regarding GILDA MIGNONETTE I would like to get more news about her private and artistic life during the period stayed at new york, because I already got information on her italian life in naples. I would like to point out that even if a little apparently insignificant news about biography of GILDA MIGNONETTE and too her american husband" "something about the following uncertain information: December 11th 1941 Mignonette is playing in the variety show 'Tunisi Italiana' at Majestic Theater, when is interrupted by FBI because of Mussolini. However Mignonette wants to satisfy her audience and decides to rent a bus to go to a suburbs of New York to continue the performance in a little theater. Because of this action police blames Mignonette to be hostile towards them and she is prosecuted. Do you have any chance to check the validity of this story? On 24th June 1926 Gilda Mignonette gets married to Frank Acierno. Is there any article about the event? On 9th May 1936 at the Opera Theater in Boston Mignonette goes on the stage with the variety show 'Faccetta nera'. It seems that she refuses to ask for an economic help to purchase the American planes. For this reason she is detained by police. Is there any article about that?" The back issues of the NY Times carry nothing about the incidents. Emelise Aleandri's book on the Italian immigrant thaeater in New York has nothing on the above incidents, either, although she dos give a brief profile og Mignonette.
