Does anyone know about a "Knickerbocker Press" that existed in 1807? (I
know about various later incarnations with that name.) The reference
comes in an 1807 letter (otherwise undated but probably October or
November) from Erie Canal essayist Jesse Hawley to his wife: "I have had
several articles published in 'The Knickerbocker Press' and the 'Genesee
Messenger,' trying to instill in the populace the importance of a
waterway across the state." The publication of Hawley's essays in the
Genesee Messenger is well-known; it is the reference to publication in
"The Knickerbocker Press" about which I am curious.
