I received a report from Onondaga County of a metal plate nailed to a structure that appears to be some form of early historic marker.

The plate is sheet metal, about 6 x 6 inches, painted black. Stenciled on the plate in yellow are the words "Historic New York" and handpainted on it is the number "37". It is nailed to a garage door.

Is anyone familiar with this type of site marker?
