Bringing Early Albany to Life: "Pearl" and the Facial Reconstruction Process

Learn how an archaeological find--a 300 year old skull recently found in a downtown Albany Lutheran cemetery site--was transformed into "Pearl", a woman who died in the early 1700's. Gay Malin will discuss how archaeology, forensic science, and art are used in the facial reconstruction process.

Museum Bioarchaeologist Lisa Anderson will speak on evidence for ritual warfare among Native American groups in late prehistory and the special problem this evidence poses under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.

Caring for the Morgan Collection

Join Anthropology Curator Dr. Penelope Drooker as she discusses the Museum's flagship collection of mid-nineteenth century Seneca Iroquois garments, tools, weapons, and ceremonial objects, gathered by the pioneer American anthropologis Lewis Henry Morgan. Learn about some of the people who made and used these items, and about a recent major project to conserve the most fragile pieces and rehouse the entire collection.
