19 June 2001 Saturday Reference Librarian Wanted The New Jersey Historical Society is looking for a Saturday Reference Librarian, preferably one with an interest in or experience with local history and/or special collections. An ALA accredited M.L.S. is required. Primary duties would include reference for in-person patrons, or patrons who contact the Society by phone or mail. The Saturday Reference Librarian supervises one Library clerk/assistant, monitors reading room security, collects monies for photocopies, maintains good physical order in the Reading Room and supervises retrieval and re-shelving of materials. The Saturday Librarian will also be asked to help with various ongoing library projects, as time permits. Experience with OCLC cataloguing would be a plus. The NJ Historical Society is located in downtown Newark within walking distance of Newark Penn Station and down the block from the NJ Performing Arts Center. The NJHS library collections include manuscripts, printed resources, rare books, photographs, pamphlets, broadsides, maps, city directories, NJ newspapers and vertical files. The NJHS collection is particularly strong in Colonial material. The workday is 9am to 5pm with an hour for lunch. The library is open to the public from noon to 5pm and the pay meets the NJ Library Association minimum of $19.10 per hour.
