A small group of amateur genealogists and history
buffs who are descended from early setters of the Town of Berne, Albany County,
are in the throes of creating a web site featuring everything they can find on
the history of the town. We believe there are a number of features that will
make this site unique:
1) it will have a searchable genealogy data
base with all Berne families.
2) by clicking on features on an 1866 map of Berne,
one will be able to bring up a biographical sketch of each settler,
a history of each church, information on each cemetery
with pictures and transcriptions of each tombstone, and an
ownership history of who owned each farm.
3) there will be data bases with all of the census
records, obituaries, wills, deeds, and church records that we can
find.
To view our first feeble efforts check out http://www.bernehistory.org. Keep in mind
that we began work only about two months ago, and have been on line about two
weeks. It will take years to achieve our objectives.
If anyone knows of similar endeavors that we can
learn from, or if you have advice for us, we would appreciate if you would
contact us through our site.
