It was a hot summer day out but freezing in the "ice"
barn. I remember seeing picture where horse drawn wagons were on the shore
a lake and with big saws they were cutting the ice and dragging the blocks
the shore where the wagon was.

Oh Yes, still had one of these working in Saginaw Mich as late as 1939 - 1940

It was finally replaced by refrigeration produced ice plant

The walls were a foot or so think and insulated with cork to keep the ice
from melting.

Fire departments had to let them burn if they caught fire
