I think, Patrick, that you are correct to be concerned. Have you read the book, "Slaves in the Family" ? the author's name is Bell and he is a descendant of slave owners and slave dealers. The book does not, in my opinion, evince enough of the shame or remorse that all of us who are white Americans should feel about the oppression of our fellow citizens of color. I used to think & say that "none of my people ever owned slaves" which remains true, but so short sighted. In a nation founded on principles of equality it is a national sorrow & disgrace that so many of our people have been, and still are, subjected to objectionable treatment based on their race.
