The tour -- conducted without charge to participants -- has been arranged for historians, academicians, graduate students and serious researchers to promote scholarly interest in the recovery, preservation and pursuit of correction history in New York. It is being arranged and conducted by the NY Correction History Society -- through the good offices of the NYC Dept. of Correction and in conjuction with the CUNY Americanist Group of the NY Metro American Studies Association Chapter. Also cooperating in the arrangements for the Harlem Courthouse jail portion of the tour are the NYC Dept. of Citywide Administrative Services and the NYS Office of Court Administration. The tour will begin with participants gathering 9 A.M. at DOC Headquarters (60 Hudson St. aka 160 West Broadway at Thomas and Worth St., 6th Floor Conference Room). Bus departure is scheduled for 9:30 A.M. with arrival at the City Island ferry to Hart Island set for 10:30 A.M. The return ferry is scheduled for 1:30 P.M. After a brief stop at the City Island museum (which includes an exhibit on Hart Island) and some refreshments, the bus will head for the Harlem Courthouse jail, with arrival there set for about 3:30 P.M. The bus is due back at 60 Hudson about 5:30 P.M.
