Because New York correction history cuts across a number of scholarly spheres, I am submitting this notice to a few of those listservs to which I subscribe as I pursue that multi-faceted subject on the web. I apologize if a bit of duplication results for those who, like myself, subscribe to a number of lists. Correction History Society meeting/tour at NYC Police Museum You are cordially invited to participate in a special meeting and tour at the new Police Museum where the New York Correction History Society (NYCHS) will hold its first Year 2000 event 5:30 P.M., Wednesday, Feb. 16. The new NYPD museum's long-awaited opening took place Jan. 20. It is situated at 25 Broadway near Bowling Green, lower Manhattan, in the old Cunard Building, between Morris St. and Battery Place, on the West side of Broadway. Sgt. Thomas M. Gambino, the museum's executive director, will greet the NYCHS visitors in the institution's 75-or-so-seat capacity meeting room. He will discuss briefly some of the challenges involved in setting up and running a New York law enforcement-related museum. After opportunity for some questions and answers, NYCHS visitors will tour the museum with guides. To allow the museum staff to plan seating and escort arrangements, please respond to this e-mail -- to [log in to unmask] -- if you would be interested in attending. Such an indication of interest would not constitute a commitment or obligation to attend but would help provide some basis for planning the arrangements. In some instances, this invitation may reach persons not be able themselves to attend but who may have history-minded professional colleagues in the New York City metropolitan area who would be interested in attending. Feel free to pass this information on to them but also pass along to them the e-mail RSVP address -- [log in to unmask] -- so we can plan seating and escort arrangements.
