"Barkydt's" would appear to be a misprint for "Barhydt's." According to
Sylvester's History of Saratoga County there was a Jacobus Barhydt who was a
carpenter in West Milton. Also, James Barhydt married a daughter of David
Abel, an early settler of Saratoga Springs. William G. Barhydt of Charlton
served in the Civil War and later moved to Schenectady. It seems "Barhydt"
was the preferred Saratoga County spelling of this old Dutch family name.
Elsewhere it is usually "Barheit" or Barhyte." They were in Columbia County
and Rensselaer County, and some of the early family genealogy is in Jonathan
Pearson's book on Early Albany County Settlers.
