Western New York State has contributed richly to the nation’s racial,
social, political, religious, agricultural, and transportation history,
and has a legacy of producing entrepreneurial thinkers and social
activists. To help preserve and promote the history and culture of Western
New York, the University of Rochester Press invites manuscript submissions
for book projects on topics of regional interest, intended for a general
audience. In particular, we welcome proposals from historians and
independent scholars for serious, well researched, accessibly written
projects on subjects that may include but are by no means limited to the
following:
•	Histories of race relations in Western New York
•	History of the women’s movement in Central and Western New York
•	Underground Railroad history
•	Architectural and urban histories
•	History of religious influence
•	Corporate, industry, technology, and labor histories
•	Literary, music, or other cultural histories
•	Agricultural and transportation histories
•	Native American histories
•	Select biography

Authors interested in submitting a proposal for a book project should be
prepared to provide the following: 1) a brief but detailed synopsis of the
work, outlining its intended contribution to the existing literature in
regional history and its intended audience; 2) an abstract of 300 words or
less, summarizing the work’s content; 3) a preliminary table of contents;
4) one sample chapter. These materials should be sent by email to the
editorial director: [log in to unmask]
