Hello Sallie
That could be on the Esopus Creek (just before it enters the Hudson) 
looking west towards the Catskill Mts. From 1827 there was huge industry 
there (at one time the largest collection of water powered industry in 
the world) and all the geographical features fit. Even the steam boat 
and sailboats would not be out of place.
